- I bought this book because the cover looked really cute, and I thought my 6th grade students would enjoy reading about how things were invented. However, the cover pic is the only pic in the entire book! I would like it a lot better if there were pictures. Also, the stories are each about a paragraph long and read like they have been copied from Wikipedia. My 6.5 year old wanted me to read him some stuff, but he was bored after a couple of stories.
- I thought this book was going to be about things that were invented/came to be because of kids, not a random book of how things came to be. The title is very misleading and the book itself is not really meant for a kid.
- I was using the book to explain the invention/design process to my students. They were imersed in developing a 'penguin' that could suspend in the water, then stand on land, and then suspend again - the materials inside the 'body' needed to weight it equally but not shift when it was 'standing' upright - and then suspend again in the water. What I was looking for was the test and revise system, which wasn 't totally described in this book - our students needed to not get discouraged if their model didn't work right away,, and see the need to 'try again'. This book was fun information, but not aimed at the process we were trying to emphasize.
- I got two of these books, one for daughter and one for nephew. we opened it up at christmas time after dinner when we were all sitting around full from dinner and started reading this book. It is quite interesting all the stories on how things were invented.. we have come to the conclusion that 90% of all things invented are from either a mother or a man tinkering in the garage.
- GRANDMA IS READING THIS BOOK FIRST BEFORE IT GETS PAST ON TO THE GRAND KIDS!! I ENJOY LEARNING WITH THE GRAND KIDS AND KEEPING THEM INTERESTED IN LEARNING WILL KEEP THEM IN SCHOOL.
- This is a fun little book of interesting facts. My step son loves learning about everyday things. Some of the stories are pretty comical.
- This is a neat little book. My 7-year old has really enjoyed reading all the fun stories about how different things came about, like Baby Ruth & Dr. Pepper.
- we discovered this & other invention history bks by the same author when my 8 1/2 yr old 3rd grade daughter was assigned a book report on an "informational" bk; it was just right; the blurbs are short but informative; kids recognize just about every product & learn about those they don't know; we had fun arranging & photographing a collage display of as many items from the bk that we had around the house - over 1/2 the 100+; she picked just a few to include in her oral report
